Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but this species is described as 'fairly common' (Stotz et al. 1996).
Trend justification: The population trend has not been investigated, but due to its dependence on forests and low tolerance of converted habitats, declines are suspected on the basis of habitat loss and degradation (Züchner and Boesman 2020). Tree cover within the range is lost at a rate of 3% over ten years (Global Forest Watch 2022, using Hansen et al. [2013] data and methods disclosed therein). Population declines are likely exacerbated by additional habitat degradation, so that they are here tentatively placed in the band 1-19% over ten years.
