Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
Marshland enclosed behind dykes, with several larger streams and canals.



Key biodiversity
More than 20,000 waterbirds occur on passage, Pluvialis apricaria being the most numerous. Several species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive breed at the site, including Circus aeruginosus, C. pygargus, Recurvirostra avosetta, Philomachus pugnax, Asio flammeus and Luscinia svevica.



Protected areas
National Low International High6,600 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Ribe Holme and meadows by Ribe å and Kongeåen, 6,600 ha). 6,660 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Vadehavet (Wadden Sea), 140,830 ha).
