Site summary
This site contains a low-altitude valley with extensive alluvial areas and a mountainous region in the southern Alps. The steep slopes are forested and, at higher elevations, alpine meadows and rocky areas dominate. An important site for breeding species found in the treeline ecotone and in semi-open landscapes. Black Grouse, Wryneck, Common Redstart and Rock Thrush occur in high densities. There is substantial recreational pressure along the Maggia river, but higher areas are largely undisturbed.
