Site location and context
A mountain range with large limestone and extensive
Pinus- and
Abies- dominated forests. The main human activities are game hunting, forestry, livestock-farming and recreation.
This is a nationally important area for alpine species. The site is a migratory bottleneck, where 3,000 or more raptors regularly pass, notably
Pernis apivorus (3,500-5,000 per season).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are from intensive forestry and disturbance from tourists. There is a forestry management plan and a management plan for the Natural Park.
