Site description (2000 baseline)
A mountain range with large limestone and extensive Pinus- and Abies- dominated forests. The main human activities are game hunting, forestry, livestock-farming and recreation.
Key biodiversity
This is a nationally important area for alpine species. The site is a migratory bottleneck, where 3,000 or more raptors regularly pass, notably Pernis apivorus (3,500-5,000 per season).
