Population justification: The population is suspected to number 11,000-26,700 individuals (Wetlands International 2022), which roughly equates to 7,000-18,000 mature individuals. The species is however easily overlooked and may prove more widespread than currently known (Taylor 2020), so the population size may be substantially larger than assumed here.
Trend justification: The trend is difficult to determine, as some populations may be locally increasing (e.g. in Mexico; Taylor 2020), while others are stable or have unknown trends (Wetlands International 2022). Precautionarily the overall population is assessed as being stable.
