Population justification: The global population is estimated to number 760,000 mature individuals (Partners in Flight 2020).
Trend justification: The species has been roughly stable over the past five decades (Partners in Flight 2020). Over the past ten years however, the population has undergone a statistically non-significant increase of 24% (Pardieck et al. 2018). It is noted, though, that there is some deficiency in the data for this, but overall the species is suspected to be increasing. This is despite the impacts of threats such as habitat loss, disturbance at lek sites and hunting (del Hoyo et al. 1994).
