Population justification: The population size of this species has not been quantified. The species is only known from three specimens, and recent records (eBird 2023) remain unconfirmed due to the difficulty of identifying this species in the field. Furthermore, its validity as a species is uncertain: features previously used to distinguish the species have also been found in Uniform Swiftlet A. vanikorensis and it has been suggested to subsume A. orientalis into A. vanikorensis (Tarburton 2018).
Trend justification: The current population trend is unknown as the species is only known from three specimens and there is little information of its ecological requirements.
