Population justification:

The population on Réunion was estimated to be 49,500 individuals in the late 1970s, based on population densities (Safford and Hawkins 2013). On Mauritius, the population was estimated at 250 pairs in 1974, but in 1993, that estimate dropped to 100-300 individuals (Moeliker 2020). No recent population estimates have been made, however the population on Réunion is still considered to be widespread and common (Bristol et al. 2013).

Trend justification: The main threat to this species is habitat degradation, fragmentation, and invasive species (Bristol et al. 2013). Deforestation data from 2000-2012 (Tracewski et al. 2016) suggests that suitable habitat is being lost at a rate of c.1.1% over 10 years. While the Mascarene Paradise-flycatcher prefers forest with limited human disturbance, it is also known to occupy less suitable habitat (Safford and Hawkins 2013), and therefore the population is likely to be stable.
