Justification of Red List category
This species is not well known and there is a lack of data on its status. Reporting rates appear to have declined as the species had formerly been considered common in Myanmar, but is now considered uncommon to rare. It is conservatively considered to have undergone a moderately rapid decline and hence is listed as Near Threatened.

The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as uncommon to rare (del Hoyo et al. 2005).
Trend justification
Recent data are lacking on the status of this species, but observations have suggested a slow to moderate decline in line with habitat loss across its range as it is now uncommon to rare, when it used to be considered common (Taylor 2016).
