Pericrocotus erythropygius and P. albifrons (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) were previously lumped as P. erythropygius following Sibley & Monroe (1990, 1993).

Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as uncommon to rare (del Hoyo et al. 2005).
Trend justification: Recent data are lacking on the status of this species, but observations have suggested a slow to moderate decline in line with habitat loss across its range as it is now uncommon to rare, when it used to be considered common (Taylor 2016).
