Justification of Red List category
Despite having a moderately restricted range, this species does not meet the thresholds for Vulnerable under the range size criterion (extent of occurrence <20,000 km2 combined with a declining or fluctuating range size, habitat extent/quality, or population size and a small number of locations or severe fragmentation). The population trend is thought to be stable, thus does not approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the population trend criterion (>30% decline over ten years or three generations). The population size has not been quantified, but it is not believed to approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the population size criterion (<10,000 mature individuals with a continuing decline estimated to be >10% in ten years or three generations, or with a specified population structure). For these reasons the species is evaluated as Least Concern.
Population justification
The global population size has not been quantified but it is described as fairly common (Eaton et al. 2021) and it is evidently fairly widespread and commonly encountered on Java's western mountains (Marsden et al. 2023, eBird 2023).
Trend justification
Remote sensing data has detected no habitat loss within the elevational range of this species for c.20 years (Global Forest Watch 2023) and it is not reported from trade. In the absence of other threats, its population trend is suspected to be stable.
Endemic to Java, Indonesia.
Occurs in montane forest at 950-3,000 m (Eaton et al. 2021).
