Taxonomic note
Cyanistes caeruleus and C. teneriffae (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) were previously lumped as Parus caeruleus following AERC TAC (2003), Cramp et al. (1977-1994) and Sibley and Monroe (1990, 1993).

Population justification: The vast majority of this species' range is in North Africa, where no estimates of population size are available. On the Canary Islands, the total population size is estimated at 40,600-201,000 mature individuals, with 20,300-101,000 breeding pairs (BirdLife International 2021). The population trend of this species is not known, either in the Canary Islands (BirdLife International 2021) or North Africa where most occur.
