Site description (2000 baseline)
The lake is situated along the által stream, and is bordered by the town of Tata. It is the largest area of standing water in the district, and has an average depth of 2.3 m when full. Following temporary drainage for fish-farming, shallow water pools and inlets cover large areas. Human activities include boating and angling.
Key biodiversity
An important roosting site for wintering wildfowl, especially for Anser fabalis. A total of 220 bird species have been recorded at the site.
