Site description (2000 baseline)
A small salt-lake of tectonic origin bordered by mountains to the north and agricultural lands to the south, east and west. It is fed by a number of small streams; reedbeds (Phragmites) have developed at the inflows. During the last decade the lake has been almost permanently dry, with a maximum of 5% flooded at the deepest points during March 1994.
Key biodiversity
The IBA has supported large numbers of wildfowl in the past. Recent counts have been low due to falling water-levels.
