Yellow River Delta Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
At the Huang He (Yellow River) estuary, massive volumes of sediment brought down by the river have settled and formed the largest river delta in China and the youngest coast wetland in eastern China. This sedimentary area is a flat plain. Vegetation cover is c.53.7% inside the nature reserve, and the IBA includes the largest area of coastal vegetation in China.

Non-bird biodiversity: No information.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Protected since 1990, it was established as a provincial-level nature reserve in 1991 and a national nature reserve in 1992. It was added to the North East Asian Crane Site Network in 1997.
