Site description (2000 baseline)
An area of flood-plain meadows and pastures dissected by ditches, with a few deciduous trees and bushes. The IBA has three separate parts: Belziger Landschaftswiesen (Bustard Protection Area), Havelländisches Luch, and Unteres Rhinluch/Dreetzer See.
Key biodiversity
Approximately 80% of the German Otis tarda population occurs in the site. The site holds more than 20,000 passage waterbirds on a regular basis. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Crex crex (5-16 breeding pairs).
