Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A large, shallow freshwater lake with associated grazed meadows and reedbeds and a small river valley.
An important staging area for
Cygnus columbianus. Lower numbers of swans
Cygnus recorded in recent years may be due to changes in census timings.
Botaurus stellaris, Circus aeruginosus, Recurvirostra avosetta and
Sterna albifrons, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, breed at the site. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Haliaeetus albicilla (non-breeding).

International High2,890 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Tissø, Lille åmose and Hallenslev Mose, 2,890 ha).
