Site description (2000 baseline)
A large, shallow freshwater lake with associated grazed meadows and reedbeds and a small river valley.

Key biodiversity
An important staging area for Cygnus columbianus. Lower numbers of swans Cygnus recorded in recent years may be due to changes in census timings. Botaurus stellaris, Circus aeruginosus, Recurvirostra avosetta and Sterna albifrons, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, breed at the site. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (non-breeding).
