IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2007 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Himalayan Snowcock Tetraogallus himalayensis LC resident (2003–2007) 5 birds A3
Cinereous Vulture Aegypius monachus NT resident (2002–2007) 7 birds A1
Yellow-billed Chough Pyrrhocorax graculus LC breeding (2002–2007) 100 birds A3
Sulphur-bellied Warbler Phylloscopus griseolus LC breeding (2002–2007) 20 birds A3
Himalayan Rubythroat Calliope pectoralis LC breeding (2002–2007) 10 birds A3
Altai Accentor Prunella himalayana LC breeding (2002–2007) 30 birds A3
Alpine Accentor Prunella collaris LC breeding (2002–2007) 10 birds A3
Brown Accentor Prunella fulvescens LC breeding (2002–2007) 30 birds A3
Water Pipit Anthus spinoletta LC breeding (2002–2007) 2,000 birds A3
White-winged Grosbeak Mycerobas carnipes LC resident (2002–2007) 20 birds A3
Red-fronted Serin Serinus pusillus LC breeding (2002–2007) 500 birds A3

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2007. The most recent assessment (2007) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2007 very poor low high
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes population medium

State (condition of the trigger species' populations)
Species Actual vs Reference (units) % remaining Result
Himalayan Snowcock Tetraogallus himalayensis 5 / 20 (birds) 25 very poor
Cinereous Vulture Aegypius monachus 7 / 10 (birds) 70 moderate
Altai Accentor Prunella himalayana 30 / 100 (birds) 30 very poor
Water Pipit Anthus spinoletta 2,000 / 2,500 (birds) 80 moderate
White-winged Grosbeak Mycerobas carnipes 20 / 100 (birds) 20 very poor

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Invasive and other problematic species and genes happening now few individuals/small area (<10%) no or slight decline (<1% over 3 generations) low
Natural system modifications happening now few individuals/small area (<10%) no or slight decline (<1% over 3 generations) low

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Whole area (>90%) covered by appropriate conservation designation A comprehensive and appropriate management plan exists that aims to maintain or improve the populations of qualifying bird species The conservation measures needed for the site are being comprehensively and effectively implemented high
