Site description (2009 baseline)
Taihang Shan is on the boundary between the warm temperate region and the temperate region. The IBA has well preserved broadleaf forests typical of both regions. Taihang Shan Macaque Nature Reserve is located on the southern slope of the southern Taihang Shan mountains, and the main submit Tiantan Shan reaches 1,715 m. The nature reserve has a core area of 6,173.5 ha.
Key biodiversity
Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Cercidiphyllum japonicum and Sinowilsonia henryi. Animals include Moschus berezovskii, Naemorhedus goral, Macaca mulatta and Lutra lutra.
