Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A low-lying flood-plain of the Tisza, Szamos and Túr rivers, situated between Vásárosnamény and the border with Ukraine.
An important site for breeding waterbirds, raptors and forest birds. Breeding species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Aythya nyroca (10-15 pairs).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats to the grasslands are abandonment of management practices, invasion by
Amorpha fruticosa, and conversion to arable land or forest. Approximately one third of
Crex crex habitat within the IBA is threatened by the construction of Motorway 3.
