Sodalıgöl (Arın Lake)

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2004 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
White-headed Duck Oxyura leucocephala EN breeding (-) 25–30 pairs A1, B1i, B2
White-headed Duck Oxyura leucocephala EN non-breeding (-) 280–800 birds A1, A4i, B1i
Ruddy Shelduck Tadorna ferruginea LC non-breeding (-) 2,000–8,000 birds A4i, B1i
Common Pochard Aythya ferina VU non-breeding (2000) 11,590 birds B1i
Black-necked Grebe Podiceps nigricollis LC non-breeding (-) 4,000–8,000 birds A4i, B1i
Black-winged Stilt Himantopus himantopus LC non-breeding (-) 440–1,000 birds B1i
Little Stint Calidris minuta LC non-breeding (-) 2,000–3,000 birds B1i

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2004. The most recent assessment (2016) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2016 moderate medium low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes habitat medium

State (condition of the trigger species' habitats)
Habitat Quantity (% remaining) Quality (% carrying capacity) Result
Wetlands (inland) good (>90%) moderate (70–90%) moderate

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Agricultural expansion and intensification happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) medium
Biological resource use happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) medium

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Whole area (>90%) covered by appropriate conservation designation No management planning has taken place Very little or no conservation action taking place low
