The IBA comprises wetlands along the Yalu Jiang river, including a reservoir formed by a dam at Laguxiao, upstream of the confluence of the Changdian He river and the Yalu Jiang. There is extensive open water which does not freeze in winter, and the area is on the border with North Korea so human disturbance is low.
