Shengjin Hu Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Shengjin Hu is located on the southern shore of the Yangtze River, in south-west Anhui Province, 10 km from Anqing City. In 1965 the construction of Huangpan Gate separated the lake from the Yangtze River, and formed a reservoir. The fishery resources have decreased dramatically since then.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: The nationally protected fish Myxocyprinus asiaticus occurs in the lake.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a nature reserve in 1986, and upgraded to a national nature reserve in 1997.
