Site description (2003 baseline):

Site location and context
Coastal area is used for agriculture, inland area is alocated for medicinal plant collection and wild boar and deer huntimg. Most of the people work as dry land farmer. Main comodities are coconut, cashew, coffee, cacao, clove and nutmeg.



Key biodiversity
Pulau Kobroor is an interesting area because of its avifauna is a mixed between Moluccas and Papua. Palm Cockatoo Probosciger atterimus and King Bird-of-paradise Cicinurus regius live in this area.

Non-bird biodiversity: Thylogale brunii, Spilocucuc maculatus chrysorrhous, Cervus timorensis moluccensis (Hitipeuw & Tuhumury 1999 obs.pri.).



Habitat and land use
Evergreen rainforest and semi-evergreen rainforest (Monk et.al.1997). The wetland habitats in this area are offshore islands, tidal mudflat, mangrove forest, laguna, beach swamp/salty swamp and freshwater swamp. Around 2-3 km from the beach there is a primary forest (Silvius et.al.1986).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Natural habitat alteration for plantation and settlement, parrot and bird of paradise catching for trade.



Protected areas
170000 ha of this area is declared as Wildlife Sanctuary based on SK Mentan 296/DJ-VI/BP/1987 (Monk et.al.1997).
