Site description (2002 baseline)
The IBA follows the coastline in two different areas: the seacliffs of Ponta dos Rosais, and the zone of Urzelina, with rocky seacliffs with ca. 200m high. Both areas are often covered with macaronesean woodland and have frequently gravel and cobble beaches at coastline.

Key biodiversity
Particularly important for breeding seabirds, includes the second largest colony of Cory's Shearwater in the archipelago
