Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
The Elbe valley between Staritz and Dommitzsch. Large areas are used for agriculture and there are also dykes, ponds and woodlands.
The site holds 20,000 or more waterbirds in winter, on a regular basis. Passage species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Branta ruficollis and
Aythya nyroca.
National High
International High6,000 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Teichgebiet und Elbaue bei Torgau, 6,000 ha). IBA overlaps with Special Protection Area.
