Site description (2000 baseline)
The Elbe valley between Staritz and Dommitzsch. Large areas are used for agriculture and there are also dykes, ponds and woodlands.

Key biodiversity
The site holds 20,000 or more waterbirds in winter, on a regular basis. Passage species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Branta ruficollis and Aythya nyroca.
