Site description (2000 baseline)
A large wilderness area just north of Koitere lake, with mires, more-or-less natural boreal forest and waterways. The mires lie at the junction of the raised bogs of inner Finland and the Pohjanmaa aapa mires. Tourism is evident, especially in summer, with several camping areas, a long network of tracks and board-walks, look-out towers and other facilities. A few roads traverse the area.

Key biodiversity
An important breeding area for boreal birds.
