Patvinsuo National Park

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2000 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Common Crane Grus grus LC breeding (1996) 11–50 pairs B2, C6
Whimbrel Numenius phaeopus LC breeding (1996) 51–100 pairs B3
Parrot Crossbill Loxia pytyopsittacus LC breeding (1996) 11–50 pairs B3

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2000. The most recent assessment (2010) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2010 good low low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information

State (condition of the trigger species' populations)
Species Actual vs Reference (units) % remaining Result

Whimbrel Numenius phaeopus 90 / 90 (pairs) 100 good

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
