Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
The site encompasses a spectacular area of the central Pyrenees with many peaks over 3,000 m. There are large areas of bare rock and canyons and also
Pinus and
Fagus forests. Human activities include tourism, forestry, game hunting, and cattle-grazing.
Breeding birds include five of the 10 species in Europe that are restricted to the Eurasian high-montane biome (when breeding).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is disturbance from skiers and the development of the ski infrastructure.
