Site description (2000 baseline)
The site encompasses a spectacular area of the central Pyrenees with many peaks over 3,000 m. There are large areas of bare rock and canyons and also Pinus and Fagus forests. Human activities include tourism, forestry, game hunting, and cattle-grazing.

Key biodiversity
Breeding birds include five of the 10 species in Europe that are restricted to the Eurasian high-montane biome (when breeding).
