Muara Gembong - Tanjung Sedari


Site description (1999 baseline):

Site location and context
Sunarto & Melisch (1994) reported that the natural mangrove forest has already depleted. Most of the area are not influenced by tidal, and converted into ponds and agriculture area.



Key biodiversity
This area is suitable for waterbirds and waders, and in need for further survey.

Non-bird biodiversity: Panthera pardus (probably extinct) and Trachypithecus auratus (Silvius et.al. 1987).



Habitat and land use
Habitats in the tidal area are ponds, small bushes, small group of mangrove forest and freshwater swamp (Silvius et.al. 1987).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Beach erosion, waste pollution and land conversion for pond (Silvius et.al. 1987).



Protected areas
Tanjung Sedari (8200 ha) and Muara Gembong (10481.15 ha) proposed as Nature Reserve (Silvius et.al. 1987).
