Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A large montane area encompassing broadleaved forest, heathlands, meadows, peatbogs, scree, rocky slopes and alpine grasslands.



Key biodiversity
The site is important for breeding raptors and other species associated with mountain habitats.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Increasing use of the site for recreational activities creates disturbance. Parts of the forest are now managed to conserve species of Tetraonidae.



Protected areas
National Low International None746 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Frankental-Missheimle, 746 ha). 505 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Le Tanet-Gazon du Faing, 505 ha). 1,647 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Massif du Ventron, 1,647 ha). 145 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Tourbière de Machais, 145 ha). 1,881 ha of IBA covered by Biological State Reserve (1,881 ha).
