Site description (2003 baseline):

Site location and context
This site has the remaining lowland semi-deciduous monsoon forest in Sumba. Langgaliru and Manupeu is part of Praimamongutidas forest block. Topography of this area is generally hilly. Most of Manupeu area is steep mountain side from sea surface to up to 600 m.



Key biodiversity
The most important site for Sumba Island that has all important species of Sumba (threatened species and/or restricted-range bird species).



Habitat and land use
- Liana monsoon semi-deciduous forest covered hills and transisional area. The rest of area is Liana monsoon evergreen forest.- There is moist evergreen forest and swamp in Gunung Manupeu (Banilodu & Saka 1993, Jepson et.al.1996)



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Burning forest, wildlife hunting, timber cutting for firewood and housing, forest clearence for agricultur (Jepson et.al.1996).



Protected areas
87984.09 ha of this area have been declared as Manupeu-Tanadaru National Park based on SK Menteri Kehutanan dan Perkebunan No. 576/Kpts-II/1998
