Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
An island in the Wadden Sea with grassland and meadows enclosed by dykes, saltmarshes and mudflats.
This is a very important site for waterbirds, with more than 100,000 individuals using the site. Several species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive breed within the area, including
Circus aeruginosus, Recurvirostra avosetta, Philomachus pugnax, Gelochelidon nilotica, Sterna hirundo and
S. paradisaea.

International High850 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Mandø, 850 ha). 850 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Vadehavet (Wadden Sea), 140,830 ha).
