Site description (2000 baseline)
An island in the Wadden Sea with grassland and meadows enclosed by dykes, saltmarshes and mudflats.

Key biodiversity
This is a very important site for waterbirds, with more than 100,000 individuals using the site. Several species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive breed within the area, including Circus aeruginosus, Recurvirostra avosetta, Philomachus pugnax, Gelochelidon nilotica, Sterna hirundo and S. paradisaea.
