Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A mountainous area in the Sierra Morena. The vegetation comprises Mediterranean scrub, dehesas, Pinus plantations and small areas of cultivation. The main human activities are livestock-farming, game hunting and forestry.



Key biodiversity
This is an important area for breeding raptors



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Threats include forestry, particularly the use of plantations and dam and road projects. Tourism is a potential threat. A management plan has been officially approved for the Sierra de Andujar Natural Park. Aquila adalberti is monitored.



Protected areas
National Partial International Partial1,500 ha of IBA covered by Natural Park (Despeñaperros, 6,000 ha). 65,000 ha of IBA covered by Natural Park (Sierra de Andujar, 68,000 ha). 41,212 ha of IBA covered by Natural Park (Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro, 41,212 ha). 27,700 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Sierra Morena, 97,528 ha).
