Løgstør Bredning This is an IBA in Danger!

Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A shallow saline fjord area with shoals and islands, coastal saltmarsh and agricultural land.

Key biodiversity
The site was very important for wintering ducks (in total more than 20,000 individuals, with eight species fulfilling IBA criteria). However, numbers declined sharply during the 1980s, presumably because of deteriorating water quality, and by 1993 insufficient numbers were present to fulfil the criteria. Recurvirostra avosetta, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, breeds at the site.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
If water quality is restored it is probable that birds will return and the site will regain its importance. During the breeding season of birds and seals, access to some areas is prohibited.
