Lösslandschaft and Wagram east of Krems


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
Over 60% of this site is occupied by non-intensive vineyards. These are interspersed with arable land, small patches of woodland, dry grassland, hedgerows and orchards. Broadleaved deciduous forest is found on the steeper slopes. Parts of the river course are still in a near-natural state. The main human activity is viticulture.



Key biodiversity
The site holds significant breeding populations of species found in richly structured, open landscapes.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Main threats to the area are intensification of viticulture, abandonment of traditional grassland management and the clearance of orchards.



Protected areas
National None International High5,978 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Kamp und Kremstal, 42,934 ha).
