Lowlands of middle Havel


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
Part of the flood-plain of the River Havel, comprising swamp and alluvial forests, humid grasslands, bogs, reedbeds (Phragmites) and clay pits.



Key biodiversity
The site holds more than 20,000 passage waterbirds, on a regular basis. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Crex crex (breeding).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Threats include the enlargement of the Havel for shipping.



Protected areas
National None International HighIBA overlaps with Nature Reserve. IBA overlaps with Special Protection Area.
