Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
An irrigation pond on the River Ebro close to Logroño, with surrounding marshy vegetation (
Typha, Phragmites) and small patches of
Tamarix scrub. The surrounding areas are used for vine and cereal cultivation and there is an industrial zone.
The site is particularly important for breeding herons.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats include a high human presence, fires and eutrophication. A management plan was officially approved in 1991.
