Site description (2000 baseline)
A complex of shallow and nutrient-rich coastal wetlands surrounding the Lapväärti river delta, including Härkmerifjärden, a shallow, nutrient-rich lake, covered by large beds of reed Phragmites and bulrush Scirpus. Human activities include fishing and boating.
Key biodiversity
An important staging area for waterbirds. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Anser erythropus (max. 1 bird, passage), Haliaeetus albicilla (max. 2 birds, passage), Crex crex (max. 2 pairs, breeding).
