Site location and context
A large, lowland lake between Verdal and Steinkjer, 12 km long and up to c.20 m deep, with a shoreline of c.35 km. The lake is nutrient-rich with large reedbeds
Phragmites/
Schoenoplectus in shallow areas. Alder
Alnus and willow
Salix trees occur along most of the shoreline. Adjacent land is mostly cultivated.
The most important site in central Norway for staging
Cygnus cygnus, and one of the most important for breeding
Podiceps auritus.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The lake is a popular spot for birdwatchers, and the local department of NOF keeps a record of observations.

International None52 ha of IBA covered by Flora and Fauna Protection Area (Figgaoset, 52 ha). 45 ha of IBA covered by Managed Nature Reserve (Lundselvoset, 45 ha). 237 ha of IBA covered by Flora and Fauna Protection Area (Lyngås-Klinga Bird Sanctuary, 237 ha).
