Site description (2019 baseline)
This IBA represents the widest mountain complex of eastern Serbia and its most significant hydrographic centre. Outside of Dinaric arc it is largest karst region in Serbia with complex tectonic and morphological structure divided by valleys of the rivers Crni Timok, Morava, Resava, Beljevina and Zlotska reka. Due to carbonate substrate and the karst relief, instead of permanent waterways and valleys, the central parts of this area have numerous caves, sinking streams and rivers with dry and dead end valleys and gorges. The entire area of Kučaj-Beljanica IBA is uninhabited. The highest peak is Beljanica (1339 m asl). The area is divided by five municipalities (Despotovac, Bor, Žagubica, Boljevac i Paraćin).
