Korcula Channel


Site description (2022 baseline):

Site location and context
The site encompasses the channel running between the islands of Korčula and Hvar and Pelješac Peninsula, with the southern border running between the northwestern tip of the island of Korčula and the western tip of the Pelješac Peninsula and along par of its coast; and northern border following the coastline of the island of Hvar. It borders the Srednjedalmatinski otoci i Pelješac IBA/SPA. The area is used by a large number of seabirds that nest off the coast of the island of Lastovo.


Key biodiversity
The site includes a number of coastal SCI areas which include habitat types such as Posidonia beds, reefs, sandbanks, mudflats, sandflats, sea caves and large shallow inlets and bays.
