Site summary
Yelkouan Shearwaters (Puffinus yelkouan), a globally threatened seabird species, listed as Vulnerable (VU) on the Global and European IUCN Red List (September 2022) and Scopoli's Shearwater (Calonectris diomedea) use this site during the breeding period. Sufficient numbers of birds use this site so as to trigger both Global and European specific regional IBA criteria. Additionally, the waters surrounding the western tip of the Pelješac peninsula are regularly used by 15-20 individual Audouin’s Gulls during the breeding period, which is notable because of the very small Croatian breeding population (25-50 pairs) even though it just didn’t trigger any IBA criteria.
