Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
Most of this site is in the montane and subalpine zones. It is predominantly forested with substantial areas of broadleaved deciduous forest, dominated by Fagus on the southern slopes. The majority of the forest is not utilized for forestry, except on the lower slopes.



Key biodiversity
An important area for breeding and resident species characteristic of montane and subalpine forest.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Some parts of the IBA are affected by intensive forestry and summer tourism. Hunting is very important in the area.



Protected areas
National Partial International None10,200 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Kaisergebirge, 10,200 ha).
