Holmegård Mose & Porsmose


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
Bog areas with freshwater ponds, marshes, grazed meadows, cultivated land and woodland (including conifer plantations, areas colonized with Betula, Salix and Alnus and small areas of Fagus). Formerly most of the area was one large raised bog; the ponds are the result of the former extraction of peat.



Key biodiversity
Significant numbers (but below criteria thresholds) of wintering geese Anser fabalis and A. anser, and raptors Pernis apivorus and Circus aeruginosus use the site. Pernis apivorus and Circus aeruginosus,listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, breed at the site.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
There is high hunting pressure.



Protected areas
National Partial International High1,900 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Holmegårdsmose and Porsmose, 1,900 ha).
